I’m back from a super-fun vacation at Nerdtacular 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. While my brain totally dug every part of my vacation, my back took issue with the amount of time I had to spend on airplanes. Battling a back spasm and a heavy work load for clients means that I am a bit behind on drawing Starcrossed. While you wait for me to get a new comic up, here is a the fun image that inspired the comic published on June 24.

A quick status update on the fullfilment of the Starcrossed: Volume One Indiegogo rewards.
Cup A’ Joe
If you backed at the Cup A’ Joe level, your book has been shipped! In many cases Cup A’ Joe backers have already received their books, though some had to travel overseas – How cool is that!? – and there is a chance they are still in transit. If you are a Cup A’ Joe backer and have not yet received your book, drop me a line and I will fill you in on as many details as I can.
Dark Roast & Espresso
A handful of these orders have been shipped and have arrived at their new homes. I am happy to report that all Dark Roast and Espresso Artist Editions are complete and ready to go here in the studio with packaging and shipping happening by the end of the month.
French Press & Other T-shirt Packages
There has been a slight change in plans with regards to T-shirt printing and shipping. Your T-shirt will arrive separately from the rest of your package. Unfortunately the switch means the mens shirt will not be available in brown. However, both shirt images will be available in both mens and womens sizes. Previously I was only able to offer one image per gender. Colors available are black and white with a third color, ash grey, a possibility but not yet final. When your French Press or other T-shirt package is ready I will be in touch with details.
All / Other Levels
All other package levels are currently in my crosshairs and underway. If your package includes a commissioned piece or original Starcrossed comic, I will be in touch to gather details. Also for all backers the PDF print packages and official list of supporters and credits to be published on the blog are coming together and will be released this month.
I’m doing my best to work through these orders as fast as I can. Everyone I have been in contact with has been patient and understanding while they wait for their Starcrossed: Volume One package to arrive. I really appreciate it! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
Wednesday night on the latest episode of The Citadel Cafe, my friend John Beck gave me a lovely thank you for a recent commission I did for him. John and I spoke about this piece when we met back in June in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Frogpants Nerdtacular event. He described to me the first year of his relationship with Sandee, now his wife, and how… Unsettled it was. He had a clear idea and I had a really fun time realizing it for him. Here’s a look.
[I] made a quick update to the gallery this morning. The two latest commissions are a Black & White Con-Sketch of Batman for the winner of a Yelp Halifax contest draw and a custom black and white
digital commission for my friends Helen and Cal for the front of her wedding invitation! Helen and Cal are both big Calvin & Hobbes fans and they wanted to bring that into their wedding invite in a unique way. Congrats guys! See you on September 30th!
Commissions are still open. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in the Starcrossed Store just email me and I can send you a custom quote.
Black & White 9 x 12 Sketches will be on special at DCAF for $40!
So, come on out to the Dartmouth Comic Arts Festival on Sunday, August 19th and pick up some cool stuff from myself and other Atlantic Canadian cartoonists and comic artists. Details here.
UPDATE: Even though the sale is over, commissions are still OPEN!
Have you been meaning to pick up a piece of original artwork from me? Well now’s your chance! To celebrate the release of a certain comic book movie this weekend, all Black & White / Con Sketch commissions are 10% off. You can read about commission details and place your order right here!
Though the samples in these posts are Batman related, don’t feel obligated to request a character from that universe. The sky is the limit. – As long as I can find references on Google Images. Ha!
Feel free to email me if you have any questions about the artwork.
Still working on today’s comic. In the mean time, there is a new commission in the gallery. If you’d like a custom piece of art for yourself or as a gift for a friend, get in touch! I’m on vacation for the next few days, but commissions are OPEN. You can find out more here.
I took some time today to add a few new images to the illustration gallery. Take a peak. If something sparks your imagination, I am still taking commissions for February.
Word seems to be getting around! One of the most popular commissions I do is the Avatar Sketch Card. There is a full description here but the basic idea is that I draw a little picture of you as if you were to appear in Starcrossed. Then you get to use that pic across all of your social media platforms and make your friends insanely jealous. Sounds great right?
Thanks for the commissions guys!
I am working on streamlining the ordering process for avatars. Here is the store page.
Thanks to everyone who has been ordering commissions or picking up prints from the Starcrossed Store. If you want to take pictures of your new art in it’s new home, I will be happy to share them on the blog. Here are a few shots from Cory Latham (@clatham78) of Texas who won a piece
from the eBay auction for an original water color and Jocelyn Moffett (@GISgamer) from Ontario Canada who commissioned a Sketch Card Avatar and picked up some prints.
I am now selling sketch cards!
I have been working on setting up a detailed commissions page, but it’s taking longer than I thought. So, for now I wanted to at least announce that I will gladly draw artist sketch cards for anyone interested.
What do you want?
The subject matter is really up to you. Maybe your favorite character from Starcrossed, or another comics favorite like Superman or Spider-man. Please keep in mind that if you choose a character created by someone else, I will be drawing my take on it. If you can give a previous example of my work that you like, that is always helpful.
Each sketch card is drawn and inked on Strathmore 2.5″ x 3.5″ trading card bristol. Unlike my comic originals, the rough pencils will be erased.
$20 CAD for B & W sketch cards (possibly with grey tones)
$30 CAD for color sketch cards (marker / water color / colored pencil)

For a fun little twist, if you’re willing to email me a couple reference photos I can turn you into a cartoon that you can use as your profile pic on Facebook, Twitter, or other social media sites.
Avatar sketches are drawn the same way as regular sketch cards. There is an additional option for a digital only commission.
